How To Draw Heads for Beginners

The Drawing Heads for Beginners workshop guides you through the steps I use to create my own head drawings for character designs and portraits.

Hi, I'm Dion Hamill, and I've been working as a professional illustrator for over 20 years. And I was always really frustrated that I couldn't find a technique that would help me to draw better faces and heads.

So I decided to develop my own method.

The steps I will show you in this workshop take all the guess work out of drawing heads. And can easily be applied to your own projects to get you started drawing better.

What you will learn

How to draw the proportions of the head

How to place the features of the face; eyes, nose, mouth etc.

How to draw the features, nose, ears, eyes etc.

How to add shadows to your head drawings to make them more realistic and 3 dimensional

How to avoid making all your faces look the same

What you will get

Time to relax and be creative

Have guidance and help from a working artist with over 20 years experience

At the end of this workshop you will have a finished head drawing in pencil.

And have the knowledge to begin drawing heads with more accuracy and realism for your next art project.

Start and finish time - 2:30pm - 4:00pm

Location - Studio above homewares store William Topp, 452 William Street, Perth WA

Access through the front door of William Topp. (Just ask the friendly staff at the front counter and they will direct you where to go).

Parking - Free Parking is available, only a short walking distance away at Baker Avenue, Birdwood Square Park, Lane Street and Wade Street.
