About this Event
The transformative and moving history of the Women's Liberation Movement has never been more relevant in America. And the newest book by author and journalist, Clara Bingham, showcases this critical history in a fresh new way. Her new book, The Movement, is the first oral history of the decade (1963-1973) that built the modern feminist movement, in which the Bay Area played a critical role. Her book brings readers into the rooms of pioneering women who insisted on being treated as first-class citizens and, in the process, transformed nearly every aspect of American life. Bingham will discuss her book, which is already being hailed as both "stunning" and "indispensable.": In it, one can read the reflections of Shirley Chisholm, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Gloria Steinem, Margo Jefferson, Billie Jean King, and more as they confronted the legal, political, medical, and economic limitations on women's lives. Bingham will discuss many of the women in the book who come from across the political and cultural spectrum, including the Black, Native American, Chicana, and Asian activists who fought for women's rights within their own social justice movements. Never has this history been so important as now in the final months of the 2024 election. Please join us for this critically important conversion/Speaker: Clara Bingham, Author. The Movement: How Women's Liberation Transformed America, 1963-1973./
