HOW ON EARTH DOES GOD WORK IN THE WORLD? THE DOCTRINE OF PROVIDENCE AFTER PHYSICS
On the topic of divine activity, there is little consensus. What is the point of contact, or causal nexus, between God and the world? Dr. Gruning, a theologian, will compare and contrast three models of divine activity and comment on their success in answering the question of how God works in the world. Dr. Campbell, a physicist, will explain how, according to quantum theory, the Newtonian position of determinism is untenable, and will consider how recent scientific theories can restore plausibility to the orthodox doctrine of providence.
Colin C. M. Campbell taught at McMaster University for 15 years in the Department of Physics and in the Department of Computer Science.
Herb Gruning, the author of six books, teaches theological ethics. religion and science, and other courses at Huron University College in London.
