Top Economist at CBA’s Research Seminar Series on October 4, 2024Professor John A. List, Kenneth C. Griffin Distinguished Service Professor in Economics at the University of Chicago, will speak at CBA’s Research Seminar Series on October 4, 2024, 1:00–2:30 PM at Mammel Hall 162. His seminar is titled How Field Experiments Can Change the World.

With over 280 publications, Professor List’s contributions to economics span numerous areas: behavioral economics, charitable giving, education, environmental economics, finance, and many others. John is a pioneer in using field experiments to study real-world economic behavior. His partnerships with numerous companies, non-profit organizations, schools, charities, and other institutions, have provided valuable insights on how economic theories apply in the real world. John’s research is highly influential, receiving close to 83,000 citations according to Google Scholar. His research has appeared in top-ranked journals such as the American Economic Review, The Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Political Economy, and many others. John is a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and serves as editor and associate editor for various academic journals.
Besides his academic career, Professor List is also Walmart’s first chief economist (since 2022). Previously, he was chief economist at Uber and Lyft. John also served as senior economist at the President’s Council of Economic Advisers (2002–2004).
