About this Event
As the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, there is no better time to reflect on the European roots that gave birth to the American republic, inspired the independence movements of the countries of Latin America and continue to shape one of the world’s most consequential geopolitical alliances. From the Enlightenment ideals that guided the Founding Fathers to the waves of migration, trade and diplomacy that built the modern West, Europe’s imprint on the Western Hemisphere is both profound and enduring. Join international relations historian Julio Crespo MacLennan for a sweeping journey across centuries and continents, exploring how the bonds forged between the Old and the New World have shaped democracy, power and identity on both sides of the Atlantic.
