How do I get rid of this frog in my throat?
About this Event
“How do I get rid of this frog in my throat?”
A singer asked exactly this at a workshop I attended—and it’s a feeling many singers will recognise.
Perhaps your voice feels tight or rough. Maybe, particularly when nervous or upset, you feel like you have a lump in the throat. Perhaps you keep wanting to clear your throat, or feel that your sound won’t quite get going. It can be frustrating, especially when your instinct is to try harder.
In this practical, two-hour workshop, we’ll explore what you might be noticing and ways to help your voice feel more comfortable and responsive.
Together, we’ll explore:
• What singers can mean by a “frog in the throat”.
• How breath, muscle tension and vocal coordination can influence how singing feels.
• Releasing vocal exercises and alternatives to pushing harder.
• Taking that sense of ease into song.
You’ll have opportunities to ask questions, try exercises and explore what works for your unique voice. There’ll also be brief opportunities for individual guidance, with no pressure to sing solo.
Led by Fran Montignani MSc, Voice Coach & Voice Rehabilitation Specialist, with 26 years’ experience supporting singers and people with voice difficulties.

A recent testimonial:
Thank you Fran. 💕 What I love about your sessions is that you are so talented at explaining clearly the mechanics of the voice and everything that is happening and the inter-related body system. It gives me so much to think about and a great underpinning to combat the frustration I can feel when I can't resolve something by 'just pushing harder'. And putting that practise to music inspires me creatively too, so I always want to come home and sing and play.
