Join us for an evening featuring UT Professor Bill Hardwig’s new book, "How Cormac Works: McCarthy, Language, and Style" (LSU Press, 2025). Professor Hardwig will be in conversation with Katie Burnett, a southern literary specialist and the associate director of the Denbo Center for Humanities & the Arts at UT. Highlighting McCarthy’s fascination and experimentation with language, Katie and Bill will discuss in particular McCarthy’s vivid descriptions of East Tennessee and Knoxville in his novels. The conversation will be paired with a discussion led by Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection director Eric Dawson, who will share McCarthy-related film pieces at the Knox County Public Library’s Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound. Steve Smith, Dean of UT LIbraries, will also be on hand to share news about recent McCarthy acquisitions by UT’s Hodges Library.
