This meteorite hunt is free unless you want to rent equipment for $25. Please RSVP at 832-437-4733 before the hunt if you need equipment. We will bring what is pre-ordered.
If you want to learn map reading, and map making techniques to walk grids while we hunt for meteorites try our class at Katy Rock Shop on June 11th at 11am. Those who attend the class on the 11th will be the first to get the map! The map will be posted at sundown on the night before the hunt (June 13th) to this event page.
If you want to hang out, hunt on your own, but benefit from the group energy - come on out! No fee for that!! :)
Join us at 8am to start the official hunt (its summer guys, and we all get tuckered out by 11 haha).
During this training session on the 11th, everyone will learn how to use a compass and link direction to a map. Each person will also learn to measure distance while walking. We will demonstrate a baseline and show everyone how walking a grid works. We will also coach on using magnets to hunt for this meteorite and how to study the land for and high grade where you look.
If you own a metal detector, bring it. We absolutely CANNOT dig, but it can help ID a surface find. If you have a strong magnet on a stick, bring it - no need to rent equipment if you have one :).
