About this Event
Please save the date on September 10th for the Houston Community Climate Summit! More details to come.
The hope for this event is to support a coming together of frontline community members, community leaders, organizers, activists, and environmental advocacy professionals to share resources, learn about neighborhood-specific issues, identify sustainability strategies, collaborate to support each other's existing initiatives, and create a shared vision and action plans toward both short and long term goals to protect the health of Houston communities.
The Summit is being planned by the Houston Climate Movement and Citizens' Environmental Coalition, in collaboration other organizations and community leaders. Thanks to a grant from the Environmental Defense Fund, we are able to offer monetary stipends to community leaders who participate in the event’s planning and implementation. (Please reach out if you'd like to be involved!) The Summit seeks to be a complement to the City of Houston’s Climate Action Plan, spark an opportunity to advocate for climate action from Harris County, and garner support for federal funding to support the Houston-area neighborhoods impacted by climate injustice.
The timing of The Summit will align with the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Harvey, a climate disaster that devastated our region. It will provide a space for reflecting, grieving, and moving forward with strength and dignity as we push for stronger regional climate action together.
This summit is the beginning of an intersectional coalition that will continue to evolve and meet annually. We come together as a community to support and lift each other up. We are #HoustonStrong.
