Tsunami's workshops are primarily focused on the inherent freestyle aspect of house dance, ranging from technique, improvisation, and the crative process. She provides tools to guide an individual into finding and building upon their own unique movement and flow. In our dance community today, the circle or "cypher" has become an integral part of our own culture and rituals. Tsunami tend to focus on this common space as well to share and explore cypher etiquette, process, and the exchange with fellow dancers. Join us for this great opportunity to dance, share, and grow.

Ami “Tsunami” Ferreira is a Pratt Institute educated architect, professional dancer and multidisciplinary artist who lives by the saying “never waiting, always creating”. This SF Bay Area native has spent the last 30 years dedicating her life to Club Culture under the lens of house music & dance. Formally trained and national champion in classical ballet and lyrical jazz, Tsunami also holds national and world bronze medals in Artistic Roller Skating. In 1989, she began her journey into the underground House and Hip-Hop scenes of the SF Bay Area and beyond. Her own versatility of freestyle movement is rooted through a fusion of house, hip hop, capoeira, ballet, tap, roller skating and breaking. Tsunami has been recognized as a fundamental piece of freestyle dance history and one of the pioneering women club dancers on the West Coast. As a cultural diplomat and educator, she nurtures and supports club culture and freestyle dance movement by performing, teaching, mentoring and co-producing events such as Bay Area House Dance Festival and Simmer Room. Tsunami is an alumni for the cross-cultural artistic exchange program Next Level USA (Team Myanmar) teaching movement foundation, technique, history and entrepreneurship workshops. For over a decade, Tsunami was co-director and dance educator for All The Way Live Foundation, creating unique platforms for local artists to share their artistry as well as traveling throughout Southeast Asia and Central America to help foster the next generation of young artists of underprivileged communities. Tsunami is a member of the famed Circle of Fire crew, Soulshifters, Sour Patch and West Side Rollers. Tsunami hopes that her passion and experience for artistic expression, leadership and her strong commitment to Club Culture will inspire others to build and expand the common ground we share, be it dance, art or music.
