Celebrating the greyhounds who shaped our lives.
Every year, we watch members of our community experience one of the hardest parts of loving a dog: saying goodbye.
We have seen so many beloved houndys leave pawprints on hearts and memories that last a lifetime. Through years of being part of the greyhound community, and through the experiences of one of our own team members, we came to realise that there is space for something many people don't often receive amidst work, family responsibilities, and the demands of everyday life: the opportunity to pause, remember, and celebrate the lives of the dogs who meant so much.
Inspired by the spirit of Matariki, a time of remembrance and reflection, we are honoured to be hosting our inaugural Houndys Remembered.
This will be an evening dedicated to the first dogs, the soul dogs, the heart dogs, and the cherished companions who helped shape our lives. We invite you to bring along a photo, collar, favourite toy, or another special memento of your houndy to place in our shared memory space for the evening.
We're still finalising the details, but to give you an idea of what we're planning:
🐾 A welcoming space to share stories and memories
🐾 A grief counsellor available to chat about loss and navigating life after saying goodbye
🐾 A food truck on site with comfort food available to purchase while we gather, remember, and connect
🐾 Thoughtful moments of remembrance and reflection
🐾 A community gathered together in support, understanding, and love
Importantly, this event is not only for those who have recently lost a hound. It is for our entire greyhound community. Whether you have said goodbye to a beloved companion, are currently sharing life with a silver-snooted senior, or simply wish to come and support others, you are warmly welcome.
One day, all of us who love these remarkable dogs will find ourselves walking this path. Until then, and when that day comes, we can walk it together, sharing stories, tears, laughter, and gratitude for the houndys who made our lives richer.
We hope you'll join us as we remember, celebrate, and honour the dogs who will always be part of our hearts.
