Hot Bread Kitchen: Early Interview Practice for ESOL Members

Since 2008, Hot Bread Kitchen has empowered New Yorkers who face barriers to economic opportunities through transformative careers in New York City’s food industry. We offer job skills training, customized job placement, food entrepreneurship programs, and an ecosystem of wraparound support, opening pathways to economic mobility for New Yorkers across the five boroughs who face barriers to employment. A growing and opportunity-rich sector, the food industry provides a desired and accessible entry point to the workforce for the communities we serve.

Our Early Interview Practice Sessions are designed for members enrolled in our Culinary Fundamentals program who are also taking English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes.

We are seeking up to 6 volunteers for this event. As a volunteer, you’ll provide one-on-one interview practice and support to help our ESOL members prepare to enter the culinary workforce. We’ll equip you with a set of interview questions and feedback forms to guide each session.

By offering constructive feedback and encouragement, you’ll help our members strengthen their interviewing skills, build confidence, and take an important step toward their career goals.

Info: Please arrive 5 - 10 minutes early to check in and create a name tag

Info: We'll begin with a quick orientation, sharing more about Hot Bread Kitchen's mission and work, purpose of the event, and event flow. We'll then pair you 1:1 with an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) member where you will help them practice interviewing. There will be 3 10-minute rounds

Info: We will end the event with some reflections; both members and volunteers can share highlights, feedback, encouragement, and a group photo!
