The Nugget Casino Resort will be at the center of the action in Sparks for Hot August Nights 2021. Classic car enthusiasts will enjoy a wide variety of events and entertainment offered on Victorian Square and at the Nugget this year, August 4 through 7.Official Hot August Nights Classic Car Drag Races & Burnouts presented by AMSOIL
This popular event combines the smell of burning rubber and gasoline, plus classic car eye candy and high-speed racing among some of the best competitors in the country.
The event will take place at “Nugget Speedway,” a special drag racing track that is about one-sixteenth of a mile long in the Nugget’s West Parking Lot. Drag races and burnouts are held Wednesday through Saturday during Hot August Nights. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with races beginning at 6 p.m., no admittance after 11:30 p.m.
Drag racers will compete side by side with full professional equipment including “Christmas Tree” starting lights, finish line displays, and full comparative E.T. printouts for drivers.
On Wednesday, Aug. 4th & Thursday, Aug. 5th from 6pm – 9pm ONLY, ALL MAKES AND MODELS will be able to race their vehicles down the 1/16 of a mile track. Only 40 modern vehicle entrants per night will be accepted. See if your car has what it takes to go up against a hot rod or even one of your friend’s cars! Registration is $30.00 per night to race (Wednesday & Thursday ONLY), 2021 registered HAN participants race for free. All vehicles will be subject to inspection and must be street legal.
Friday, Aug. 6th & Saturday, Aug. 7th are open to 1979 and older vehicles ONLY with free entry for all 2021 registered Hot August Nights participants. There is a $50 nightly charge on Friday & Saturday to any non-registered classic dragsters that would like to compete.
Only registered Hot August Nights participants qualify for nightly prizes. Prizes to be awarded on Saturday night.
The cost to attend is $15 for general admission and free for children 6 and under and Hot August Nights registrants.
Free Concerts
Watching the cars of yesteryear just wouldn’t be right without the appropriate soundtrack. Enjoy daily music and free, nightly concerts in the new Nugget Event Center outdoor amphitheater. The lineup includes DJ Rich West 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Wednesday, Jim Shoe & The Sneakers play at 5 p.m. with The Stars of Beatlemania at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Papa Clutch & The Shifters start at 5 p.m. with the Hollywood Stones Tribute at 8:15 p.m. Friday, Arizona Jones will play at 5 p.m. with Surfin’ – The Beach Boys Tribute at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Jenny’s School of Dance performs at 10 a.m., followed by DJ Rich West, then The Chromatics take the stage at 5 p.m. with the Legendary Chubby Checker at 8:15 p.m.
Ultimate Classic Car Competition
Wednesday, 8/4 through Saturday, 8/7, the Nugget will host the Ultimate Classic Car Competition for daily prizes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with awards announced at 6 p.m. Wednesday, 8/4 is for all Chrysler/Mopar products and all other miscellaneous manufactured brands. Thursday, 8/5 is for all Ford products. Friday, 8/6 is for all General Motors products as well as Best Stock Restored/Best Stock Original products. Saturday, 8/7, the Best of Show Award will be presented at 6 p.m.
Women With Wheelz Show-n-Shine
Each day, Wednesday through Saturday starting at 9 a.m., the Women With Wheelz Show-n-Shine will take place in the Nugget’s East parking lot. It’s open to all female Hot August Nights registered car participants and there will be judging and awards at 3 p.m. daily.
Daily/Nightly Fun & Cruising
Daily Show ‘n’ Shines take place on Victorian Square and you can watch the impressive line-up of classic cars make their way down Victorian Avenue each night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will also be plenty of fun for the family with crafters and food and beverage booths around Victorian Square daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Street Closures
Victorian Avenue will close for the event beginning Monday, August 2.
