Hospital stay? What happens with our diabetes? Meet the experts
About this Event
Join us online or inperson on Thursday September 17th.
It's scary being admitted to hospital for anyone - but if you have diabetes, there's an extra layer to think about. Most of us try to be as independent as possible - seeking guidance when we need it - but if you're facing surgery or are admitted unexpectedly - what happens? Do all wards follow the same guidance? Are all staff trained? How do you find out how much carb's in meals? If you need to starve pre-surgery or investigation (eg colonoscopy) what should you do? What if your sugars go low?
We are so pleased to be welcoming local experts, specialising in hospital care, including Cheryl Smith, diabetes specialist nurse and team leader of the inpatient diabetes nurses at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, and Rachel Buckle - specialist dietitian for inpatients with special needs, and Ian Paterson - former Consultant Anaesthetist who lives with diabetes. See their fabulous details below!
