Founded in 2004 at The Eagle, a modest gay bar in London’s Vauxhall, Horse Meat Disco (HMD) has grown into a defining force in queer and global club culture while remaining loyal to its weekly Sunday home. Co-founded by James Hillard and Jim Stanton with residents Severino and Luke Howard, HMD now holds residencies worldwide and headlines countless festivals and clubs. Drawing from a vast, eclectic history of underground music, their sound defies categorization—rooted in hedonism, rhythm, and emotion. A typical HMD set fuses disco classics, italo, house, punk funk, and leftfield gems, embodying their ethos of “a queer party for everyone” — welcoming “Homos and Heteros, club kids, bears, fashionistas, naturists, guerrilla drag queens and ladies who munch.” HMD has graced stages from Glastonbury to Love International and once hosted a celebrated Rinse FM residency that soundtracked Sunday afternoons worldwide. Their acclaimed Strut Records compilations solidified their status as disco connoisseurs, while their 2020 debut album Love and Dancing showcased seven years of original work, proving disco’s modern vitality without relying on samples or covers. With new music and another compilation due in 2025, Horse Meat Disco continues to celebrate freedom, community, and the enduring joy of the dance floor.
