Horn Shell Body Adornment Masterclass with Umi Arts
Learn from incredible artists, and be guided and inspired as they share their stories and knowledge of both ancient and contemporary techniques—then take home your own piece from the Fair!
Lisa Michl Ko-manggén (OAM), of the Pa la Nganduw Kedew, White Dingo Clan of the Kokoberrin People, will lead a masterclass in creating traditional Horn Shell body adornments. Guided through the process, participants will work with the horn shells to craft a piece to take home.
These adornments, crafted from small hollow shells found along the beaches of Cape York Peninsula’s central western coastline, hold deep cultural significance. Worn during Kokoberrin dances and ceremonies, they embody ancestral traditions and artistry.
This workshop is a collaboration between the artist and participants committed to preserving and sharing cultural heritage through these delicate and meaningful creations.
