Ride Description:A Derbyshire Challenge ride (D3C) following the inaugural successful invitational ride over Mam Tor in 2024 it is open to book in 2025. Note there is a prompt start time to ensure no conflict with hang gliders therefore anyone arriving late will not be permitted to leave.
This 20km circular ride starts at the Iconic Hope Cement Works. The Start climbs steeply out of Castleton up to the Great Ridge at Hollins Cross. It It skirts lofty Mam Tor, crossing over to Rushop Edge with far reaching views into the Dale valley and to Kinder Scout, and then picks up the Pennine bridleway through Perryfoot to Old Dam. The return is via Eldon Hill and Dirtlow Rake, dropping steeply down the Siggate with stunning views across the Hope Valley, to the venue. 620M of ascent, 60% off road the rest on quiet lanes. A very short section through Castleton village by the school. Some stoney, rutted and exposed spots. It is strongly recommended that for barefoot horses, boots will be required. One short section with a drop. Stewarded road crossing on the Pennine Bridleway with good visibility.
