A six-month journey of planning, healing, and hope now leads us into a September that holds deep meaning for our community.
After introducing the “You Are Not Alone” box at the Team OC-Heart and Hope Gala in February—a box lovingly created to support families after a suicide loss—Team OC and Catherine Henderson has spent the past six months preparing a month-long series of events to honor Suicide Prevention Month.
This initiative is deeply personal and profoundly rooted in love. It was inspired by Catherine Henderson in memory of her husband, Matt Henderson—a man who gave so much to his community and now watches over us from above.
This September, we stand together with the mission of prevention, awareness, and healing.
We begin the month with a powerful broadcast hosted by WUME, where Greg Walker will share the moving story of losing his father. Following that, Greg and Catherine will sit down together in a heartfelt interview, opening the door to conversation, understanding, and support. Throughout the month, Catherine and Matt’s children—Clara and Colton Henderson—will also offer their voices, showing that strength can rise from grief.
To equip our community with tools and understanding, we will offer:
• Three suicide prevention classes led by Jamie Walker
• Three healing sessions with Dr. John Keesler, focused on navigating life after suicide loss
Then, on September 13, we will gather at Paoli Park for a Community Walk of Remembrance and Hope—a time to walk for those we’ve lost, support those who still struggle, and remind one another that no one walks alone.
This special day will also include the unveiling of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s newly wrapped patrol car, boldly carrying a message of suicide awareness and prevention—an enduring symbol of the support that surrounds us.
