The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is dedicated to the protection and preservation of our natural resources. There is no better way to preserve Maine's future than by hooking future generations on a hobby that lasts a lifetime.
The Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs (HOFNOD) program is the flagship youth education program of the Foundation. The program, developed 20 years ago, has been recently updated. HOFNOD uses angling skill development as a gateway to teach youth about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and how to deal with the challenges facing them in their young lives. The HOFNOD network includes trained aquatic education professionals in over 30 states with literally thousands of programs nationwide.
Workshop participants will:
- Be introduced to activities that focus on targeting open water Maine-specific fisheries.
- Try example activities, practice casting
- Learn basic maintenance and knot tying (and untying)
- Receive resources for instruction, upon request
- Network with other angling enthusiasts from beginner to expert!
This event will be held outside at picnic tables so dress for the weather. Participants should plan to bring your own lunch and dress accordingly as we will be outside rain or shine.
