About this Event
Hoodoo Tea Party: Demystifying the Roots
Join us at Gray’s Apothecary for an intimate evening of tea, light refreshments, and honest conversation as we introduce the foundations of Hoodoo — African American folk spirituality rooted in ancestral survival, protection, and practical spiritual work.
This is not a performance.
This is not fantasy magic.
This is education, history, and cultural grounding.
Together, we will gently unpack common misconceptions and explore:
• What Hoodoo actually is
• The difference between Hoodoo and Voodoo
• The historical roots of the practice in the American South
• The role of ancestors, Psalms, herbs, and rootwork
• Why Hoodoo is about protection, justice, and balance
We will also honor the documentation of Hoodoo by figures like Zora Neale Hurston, author of Mules and Men, who preserved many oral traditions.
🍵 Your ticket includes:
• Curated herbal teas with spiritual symbolism
• Handcrafted mocktails
• Light Southern-inspired refreshments
• Guided discussion + Q&A
• A grounded, respectful introduction to the tradition
This event is designed to educate, not initiate. No ritual participation is required.
Space is intentionally limited to maintain intimacy and respect for the topic.
Whether you are curious, culturally connected, or seeking clarity beyond social media portrayals — this evening is for thoughtful learning and community.
Dress code: Soft, comfortable, elegant if you’d like.
Atmosphere: Warm, rooted, and welcoming.
We look forward to sharing tea and truth with you.
