Honoring Our Grief:
A Community Remembrance Walk A shared journey to carry, voice, and release our heaviest burdens.
Event Overview
Grief can feel like an invisible, crushing weight. This gathering provides a dedicated, physical space to acknowledge our burdens, carry them in community, and intentionally release what no longer serves us. Together, we will walk along the water, speak our truths, and leave changed.
Date & Time Date: Sunday November 1st, 2026
Gathering Time: 12:00 PM until 11:00 PM
Walk Begins: 12:30 PM
Location & Route Starting Point: St. Clair County Courthouse SIDEWALK. (201 McMorran Blvd, Port Huron, MI)
Ending Point: Waterfront Park at the base of the Blue Water Bridge (1410 Elmwood St, Port Huron, MI)
Distance: Approximately 2.5 miles. We will follow a peaceful route heading east to the water, then north along the Thomas Edison Parkway trail.
What to Bring
• Comfortable walking shoes and clothing appropriate for the riverfront weather.
• At least two physical rocks/stones. Choose stones that feel significant to hold. At least one will be cast away; the other will return home with you. You can bring more than one stone to release the weight of each loss.
The Ritual Structure
1. The Gathering & Intention: We meet on the Courthouse Sidewalk. We will be staying on the sidewalk ONLY. DO NOT ENTER THE COURTHOUSE OR OBSTRUCT BUSINESS IN ANY WAY. We will walk in the cross-walks. We will not obstruct traffic, or use amplification devices. As you ground yourself, hold your two stones. Assign your specific grief, unsaid words, or burdens to the first stone. Assign your love, resilience, and memory to the second stone.
2. The Procession: We will walk together in a supportive, shared silence or soft conversation. Feel the physical weight of the stones in your hands or pockets as we move along the riverfront. Take a moment to recognize the weight people are carrying around you.
3. The Release: At the base of the Blue Water Bridge, we will gather by the current. One by one, or in unison, those who wish to speak may state their grief out loud to the open air and cast their box/stone into the water, letting the river carry it away.
4. The Keeper: We will depart holding our second stone close—a permanent memento of our endurance and a physical reminder of the grief we carry forward with love. This is a safe, non-judgmental space open to anyone navigating grief of any kind. Come as you are.
