Jacksonville broadcasting is turning 100! π#DYK On Thanksgiving Day 1925, WJAX became Jacksonville's first radio station, bringing the world to north Florida via the NBC radio network. For the first decade, locals listened in via tabletop sets, but by the 1940s, radios had become standard equipment in cars. By the 1950s, a half-dozen AM stations were competing for the area's growing audience.
Join the Jacksonville Broadcasters Association as we celebrate this historic milestone in our industry! JBA's November program, "Honoring 100 Years of Broadcasting in Jacksonville," will feature the stories of WJAX and other pioneering stations, as well as the people who made them a success. We'll also share updates from Jacksonville Broadcasting Foundation, which is working to support the next generation of local broadcasting and communications leaders.
This event is free and open to all current and former broadcasting, media, and communications professionals, industry supporters, historians, and students (lunch on own). We hope to see you next Wednesday, November 12, at 12 PM at our regular spot: Mudville Grille, 3105 Beach Blvd in St. Nicholas!
