About this Event
Milwaukee PBS Presents: “Honor in the Air — Remembering Captain Scott Robinson Alwin”
This November, as we honor the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans, Milwaukee PBS invites you to a special screening of Honor in the Air: Remembering Captain Scott Robinson Alwin — a powerful documentary celebrating one of Wisconsin’s own heroes. A talk-back session will follow the screening.
Captain Scott Alwin was a humble Wisconsin native who became one of the most decorated Army helicopter pilots of the Vietnam War. His remarkable bravery and skill earned him an astounding 136 documented Air Medals, Silver Stars, Distinguished Flying Crosses, and Purple Hearts. Beyond the medals, Captain Alwin’s pioneering emergency flight techniques continue to be taught to every Army helicopter pilot today — a lasting legacy of courage and innovation.
Join us for this moving tribute to Captain Alwin and the entire generation of service members he represents.

About the documentary
This is the story of a humble man who became a decorated aviator and hero. Captain Scott Alwin, one of 16 'preacher's kids' and a Wisconsin native, served five tours of duty during the Vietnam War as an Army helicopter pilot, first flying slicks and later, gunships.
Scott’s skills, daring, and decorations stand as a testament to his valor and include 136 documented Air Medals, Vietnam Republic Medals, Purple Hearts, Bronze Stars, Silver Stars, and Distinguished Flying Crosses, all with oak leaf clusters. He and a fellow Top Tiger pilot, Howard M. King, developed a low approach autorotation technique to counter tail rotor failure and taught it to other pilots in their unit. The army still teaches this technique to all helicopter pilots in their standard training today.
It was while in Vietnam that Scott met, fell in love with, and married his wife, Du Duong “Tess”. Scott went to war because he loved his country, the United States of America. During his five tours of duty, he fell in love with Vietnam, too. He is buried in Marathon County, WI. To those who knew him, his legacy of love and honor lives on.
