About this Event
Honeybear, the Band is celebrating the relase of their brand new EP. They are lucky enough to be joined by Vancouver legends Ivan Hartle and Just A Season. If we weren't already performing, we would definitely be going to this show!
Just A Season (Vancouver, BC) www.justaseason.ca
Scott Smith has helped make a lot of other people sound great over the years. From the heartland roots-rock of Barney Bentall and the arena sized country of Aaron Pritchett to a slew of insurgent Vancouver club champs like Rich Hope, Ben Arsenault and Marin Patenaude, Smith has been everybody’s ringer, flipping between guitar and pedal steel while casually raising the bar with lightning technique and unfailing good taste. With his band Just A Season, Scott Smith switches from sideman to frontman, enlisting some of his favorite players to put the right groove on a collection of songs that recall an era when folk, rock, and country met in a sun-baked embrace.
Ivan Hartle (Vancouver, BC) www.ivanhartlemusic.com
Born and raised in Vancouver, B.C., Ivan Hartle is a musician who molds a vintage sonic aesthetic with modern elements. Pivoting from a successful US college baseball career into music, he’s been featured as a popular and emerging artist by DailyHive Canada. His bluesy, soul singer-songwriter stylings are drawn from the classic sounds of Sam Cooke and Donny Hathaway, to new age artists like Son Little, John Mayer, Amos Lee, and Leon Bridges. Ivan’s memorable live act is flush with melodic grooves and strong, soulful vocals.
Ivan's received considerable radio airplay on CBC, including the Q with Tom Power and Afterdark programs, as well as the Netherlands' national NPO Radio 2. His catalogue has over 3.5 million streams on Spotify (1.2 mil for ‘Feelin’ Like’, 675k for 'Remedy', 530k for ‘Love in the Lead’), including various editorial placements (Blues Roots, Retro Soul, Mellow Morning + more).
Ivan's album ‘A Place to Stay’ (Dec. 15th, 2023) has been met with much praise, including a feature in Clash Magazine for the standout single ‘Love in the Lead.’ He followed up his successful album release with the timeless summer groove 'So Am I.' With media coverage from the likes of the aforementioned DailyHive, Global News Canada, The Province (B.C.), and Notion, Ivan's poised for continued success in 2025.
Honeybear, the Band (Vancouver BC) honeybear.band
Honeybear is retro soul, blues and roots quartet from Vancouver BC. Music blog B-Side guys describe their music as if "... The Teskey Brothers decided to collaborate with the ghost of Muddy Waters, with Jesse Roper acting as the spectral medium"
While Honeybear is a relatively new band formed in 2023, the 4 band members are old friends and have been playing together in other formations for over a decade, crossing paths on tours across Canada, down the West Coast, and beyond.
When the pandemic struck and live music was at a standstill, the 4 friends found themselves jamming outdoors in parks, with amps and PA's hooked up to jerry rigged motorcycle batteries, just to bask in the joy that is playing live music with like minded souls. Necessity is the mother of invention, etc. The rest is history.
In their short time as a band, Honeybear has already managed to rack of considerable listens on Spotify, with close to a million streams for their debut singles, and has had numerous festival appearances such as Victoria's Rifflandia and others.
Honeybear is:
Ian Beaty – Vocals/Bass
Colin Brumelle – Guitar
Mike Kenney – Keyboards
Tim Watson – Drums
Fun fact: Keyboard player Mike Kenney has the distinction of playing more sold out shows at Rogers Arena than any other musician – as the organ player for the Vancouver Canucks!
