Let's do something different! Diorama's and Salt Dough Maps fair.
Diorama Display fair is using creativity while helping visualize topics in 3D, allowing for your student to improve their focus and enhancing problem solving while engaging in a fun, hands on way to express learning of a topic.
Ages: 7-?
Recreating a non fictional historical scene, Science/Weather related event, 7 wonders of the world, nature location( Rainforest, waterfall, etc).
Topics: Non Fictional historical or science related events, historical figures/Hero's. Ex: Wars, 911, Marie Curie, Hurricanes etc.
Materials: Open or closed cardboard boxes (I know you got some amazon boxes), shoe boxes (Cardboard or plastic), open platform style displays. Your display should be able to fit on a table.
Clay, playdough, toobies, plastic figures, dollhouse miniatures, gnome/fairy garden props etc.
Each child will have questions they need to answer regarding their display when visitors are at their table. ( Those will be posted soon).
SALT DOUGH MAPS
Salt doughs transform abstract geography into a 3D educational experience. Your student gets to boost learning retention through hands-on sensory engagement, improving spatial skills, fine motor control and understanding of landforms while making geography and history come alive.
Information: Salt dough map can be of any state, country or continent. It must include the minimum items on the map:
The capital
2 or 3 major rivers/beaches
2-3 major mountains (if any)
2-3 major cities
1 major historical event that took place there
1 major attraction(s)
any historical figure/hero from the location chosen
The map must fit on the table.
I am making a separate post regarding a few ideas/suggestions.
For ages 7 and under, if your child would like to participate and Here are a few to knows for them:
Non fictional farm, gardens, nature preserves, national/state park, beaches, marine life, life cycles. All materials mentioned above are the same.
They will also need to answer questions however they will be more geared towards their age/display.
If any questions, please pm me.
Happy creating.
