Homeschool families are invited to join us for a special Civics Learning Day at the Smith County Commissioners Court on April 30th at 11:30 AM, featuring County Judge Neal Franklin. This is a wonderful opportunity for students and families to step inside local government and see firsthand how decisions are made that impact our everyday lives here in Smith County.During this visit, families will learn what Commissioners Court does, how local government functions, and how citizens can participate in decisions at the county level. Students will also hear about the many responsibilities the county oversees—from community safety and emergency preparedness to protecting animals and managing essential county services.
This event is open to students in 4th grade and older, making it a great real-world civics lesson for homeschool families who want their children to better understand how local leadership and community responsibility work together.
Please RSVP to help us plan for attendance.
Upon arrival, please note that a security scan is required to enter the courthouse, so families are encouraged to leave any unnecessary items in their vehicles to make the entry process smooth.
We look forward to welcoming homeschool families for this hands-on civics lesson and helping students see how local government works to serve and protect our community.
