Werth College of Science, Technology, and Mathematics would like to invite you to a presentation at Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center on April 30th at 6:00 PM. Homer Hickam will present "From Rocket Boys to October Sky, Tales of Inspiration and Adventure." After Homer's presentation, there will be a reception and book signing.Homer Hickam is a Vietnam Veteran, New York Times Bestselling Author, NASA Engineer, and advocational paleontologist. He began writing after he returned from Vietnam in 1969. His first book was Torpedo Junction, a military history book. Mr. Hickman's second book, Rocket Boys: A Memoir, became his most famous work. The movie October Sky was based on his book Rocket Boys. Since then, Homer has continued to write many successful books. He was employed as an engineer for the U.S. Army Missile Command and an aerospace engineer for NASA. During his NASA career, he worked in spacecraft design and crew training. One of the crews he trained was the Hubble Space Telescope deployment mission. Homer has received many awards and honors throughout his life. One of the awards was the Appalachian Heritage Writer's Award. Homer has lived an extraordinary life, and you won’t want to miss this event.
Also, there will be a free showing of October Sky before Homer comes to campus. This showing will be April 23rd at 6:00 PM in the FHSU Memorial Union Cody Commons. Student Engagement will be providing popcorn for this event.
