For families looking for a homeschool science course with challenge and substance, in-person homeschool astronomy returns to the RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium! This course is designed for students ages 11–15.Our fall course includes seven 90-minute sessions, all held on Wednesdays from 11:30am to 1:00pm.
Each session is divided between activities and discussions in the Planetarium's classroom and lobby, sky lessons in the Star Theater, and occasional outdoor activities.

FALL COURSE PACKAGE
October 23 & 30 | November 6, 13, 20 | December 4 & 11
Tuition: $225 per student; $200 per student for multiple children living in the same household enrolling together.
Curriculum:
- The evolution of astronomy throughout history
- The purpose and differences of many current astronomical instruments (JWST, LIGO, etc.)
- Solar weather and its effect on the Earth
- Our place in space and how we know where we are
- The nature of light, color, wavelength, and what they tell us about our universe
- How light waves are transmitted, reflected, and how we can 'see' them
- The life cycles of stars, from birth to death to rebirth of new generations of stars
- Black holes
- Popular topics for astronomers and why they are interested in these
