Home Education Bird of Prey & Animal Workshops – November 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th 9.30-11.30Over the four weeks we will be running some home educated workshops with our birds of prey and animals. Under the guidance of our experienced falconers and animal keepers these workshops are designed to give children the opportunity to get hands on experience as well as learning.
November 7th – British Birds of Prey: The farm is home to quite a few of our native species including the Barn Owl, Tawny Owl, Long Eared Owl, Little Owl, Kestrel, Goshawk, Red Kite and Golden Eagle. Under the guidance of our falconer students will have the opportunity to hold and fly some of these species. Learn about our native species; conservation status, habitat and adaptations.
November 14th – Fur and Scales: At the farm we house quite a few different smaller animals. Pupils will have the opportunity to meet and handle some of these including our rabbits, guinea pigs, skunk, dumbo rats and chinchillas. Pupils will clean, feed and water and learn about how we look after these animals. Pupils will then go on to meet some more of our unusual animals including snakes, reptiles and creepy crawlies. Learn how we keep them, what food they eat, temperature control and substrates used.
November 21st – Teaching Talons: Meet some of the most incredible raptors from around the world. Falconers will be teaching students about the different species housed here at the farm including the Hawks, Falcons and Eagles. Students will cover adaptations, the difference between the species and their habitats. Under the guidance of the falconer they will be able to hold and fly some of the different birds.
November 28th – Owls of the World: Owls are such a majestic species, so much to learn when it comes to these incredible birds! Students will be able to meet, handle and fly some of the different species. Learn about the owls amazing hearing, eyesight, silent flight and hunting techniques.
