About this Event
Food serves as a significant aspect in shaping memory and cultural identity. It represents cultural heritage and traditions, fostering shared experiences and communal gatherings. It is also a form of resistance and resilience, which allows us to rise and, together, challenge the hostile environment.
In this celebration of our collection work “Home and Hospitality” by Najma Abukar and Ruth Impey, participants are invited to join us for a double workshop highlighting the cultural significance of food.
In the morning, led by Paria M. Goodarzi, we will host a tie-dye and monoprint workshop using natural food dyes on tote bags. The afternoon session, led by Ruth Impey, will allow participants to reflect on foods/plants/ingredients that are important to them and their culture and to engage with the process of inlaying a contrasting slip into a clay tile.
In between the two workshops, participants will enjoy a multicultural lunch and have a chance to view the artwork which inspires the sessions.
