When bratty 8-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) acts out the night before a family trip to Paris, his mother (Catherine O’Hara) makes him sleep in the attic. And when the McCallisters mistakenly leave for the airport the following morning without him, Kevin awakens to an empty house and assumes his wish to have no family has come true. But his excitement sours when he realizes that two accident-prone con men (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) plan to rob the McCallister residence, and that he alone must protect the family home. Home Alone is an undisputed contemporary Christmas classic. But careful observers will have already noted that December 29 is, technically, after Christmas. What can we say, friends; the calendar obeys its own rules and not the fickle whims of exhausted, nog-besotted humanity. In short: this was the only spot we had. And really, isn’t three days before the new year the ideal time to start getting back into the holiday spirit for 2025?
