Holst’s The Planets

Composer-conductor Thomas Adès takes listeners on a sonic trek from the deepest depths of the underworld to farthest reaches of the galaxy. Holst’s cosmic showpiece The Planets provides a striking complement to Adès’s hair-raising music from Inferno, his ballet inspired by Dante’s tour of hell. In between, a US premiere by Spanish composer Francisco Coll, which he described as “a ballet without choreography.”
