Join us as we listen to Holocaust survivor Leah Baars share her story of survival during the Nazi persecution of Holland. Between 1933 and 1945, the German Nazi regime sponsored the genocide of 6 million European Jews and 5 million others who were targeted based on race, politics, behavior, and their disabilities.
Leah was born in a Southern Holland convent during the winter of 1944 while her parents were in hiding with the Wijnakker family. The Baar family lost 24 members to the horrors of the Holocaust. After the war ended in May 1945 she and her parents moved to Amsterdam. Her father, who was an architect, couldn’t find work. When she was 4, they moved to Eindhoven where her father worked for Phillips Industries as an architect until they immigrated to California in January 1958.
Listen as Leah shares her family’s experience during the Holocaust so that we may learn to never repeat it.
