Holiday workshops: Advanced STIXX Shelters (Year 7 - 9)
About this Event
Get ready for a hands-on engineering challenge. Participants will first explore the principles behind strong, stable structures before putting theory into practice to design and construct a full-scale 3D shelter.
Working in teams, they will transform ordinary sheets of newspaper into durable STIXX rods using hand-operated machines. Using these rods, and taking inspiration from civil engineering processes, participants will progress through every stage of a project - from planning and prototyping to construction, testing and eventual dismantling. Along the way, teams will be able to get creative and incorporate advanced features and innovative design details into their structures.
Throughout the workshop, participants will develop confidence in collaboration, communication and problem-solving - all essential transferable skills for future pathways.
This dynamic and engaging experience blends creativity, scientific understanding and real-world engineering practice, designed to challenge and inspire.
For children who have just completed Years 7, 8 and 9 this term - please book based on your child’s current/most recent school year, not their new year group from September. This typically corresponds to children aged around 11–14 years old. We reserve the right to refund or deny entry to those who are not in the correct year group.
Refunds can only be issued for tickets cancelled at least two weeks (14 calendar days) in advance of the event date. Please note that this supersedes our normal event terms and conditions.
