Join us for our Annual Holiday Open House at Claymont Court! ?December 14th and 15th from 12PM–3PM, we will welcome visitors on a self-guided historical tour of the mansion and grounds. A musical duo will offer entertainment in the sitting room and light refreshments will be served in the dining room. $5 admission per adult will help go towards preservation efforts of the Claymont mansion.
There are over a dozen fireplaces in the house, seven being on the first floor alone. For some special holiday cheer, the mantles are decorated with greenery and nature tidbits collected from the grounds – decking the halls as would have been done in the 19th century!
The historic Georgian-style mansion was the home of Bushrod Corbin Washington, the grand-nephew of George Washington. The original home, built in 1820, was so grand in style that it became known as “Bushrod’s Folly.”
Claymont is located at 577 Claymont Mansion Road.
