Holiday Cold Process Soapmaking Class

Holiday Cold Process Soapmaking will teach participants how to make handmade soap with a holiday twist! Choose from three different batch sizes. Please note: cold process soaps have a cure time of four weeks before they are ready to use or give away. You will have the option of taking your batch of soaps home to cure or leaving them at Motor City Soap's studio for pick-up the weekend of December 20th.

During class, you will learn:

• Safety gear and precautions
• Basic cold process chemistry
• Ingredient selection and storage
• Fragrance & essential oil usage rates
• How to cut, cure and store soaps
• And more!

All ticket levels include:

• Class handout
• Reusable silicone soap mold
• 2 hours of hands-on instruction
• Custom soapmaking design guidance
• Selection of holiday-themed fragrance oils, essential oils, and colorants

Ticket Options:

4-bar batch ($79) and includes:

• 1 reusable silicone loaf mold
• 1 lb of soap (4, 4 oz bars when loaf is sliced)

6-bar batch ($89) and includes:

• 1 reusable silicone round or square mold (6 cavity)
• 1.5 lb of soap (6, 4 oz bars)

12-bar batch ($119) and includes:

• 1 reusable silicone round or square mold (12 cavity)
• 3 lb of soap (12, 4 oz bars)

FAQs

How do I get to the venue and where can I find parking?

This class will be held at Motor City Soap's studio, a makerspace in a neighborhood called Core City in Detroit. We're located on Loraine St. just south of Grand River, near the I-94 and I-96 overpass. The studio is accessible by public transportation on the Grand River bus (#3) and the Warren bus (#8). Parking is located in the back of the building, through the electronic sliding gate. If the gate is closed, call or text 313-757-2129 and Caitlyn will let you in.

What should I wear?

Be sure to wear closed-toe shoes, a long-sleeved shirt, and clothes you don't mind getting dirty! Safety gear like goggles and gloves will be provided, but if you would prefer to bring your own, you are welcome to do so.

Is my ticket transferrable?

Yes! If you are unable to attend after purchasing your ticket, feel free to pass it along to another soapmaker.

Is there an age restriction?

Due to the nature of making soap from scratch, this class is designed for participants 18 and up. However, Caitlyn is happy to work with you to create a special event for little humans! Contact caitlyn (at) motorcitysoap (dot) com to start planning.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Nope, just check in with Caitlyn upon arrival.
