Gouache is a water-based paint known as "opaque watercolor" because it combines the matte, velvety finish of watercolor with the opacity of acrylics. The ink resist technique is a process where a material, we will be using gouache, is painted onto paper first, and then waterproof Indian ink is brushed over the entire surface. After the ink dries, the painting is washed with water, and the gouache dissolves, taking the excess ink with it to reveal the final image. The result is a dramatic, high-contrast image that resembles a woodblock or linocut print.
We will be gathering at the Community Art Hub on Friday December 5th from 6-8pm to learn this ink resist technique and to make two holiday cards each! Registration required, as there is a 10 person maximum. Register by sending an e-transfer to [email protected] including the names of all participants. Registration is on a sliding scale between $10-$20, and if you need financial support to participate please email us, no disclosure required. We will update this Facebook Event when the registration is full.
This event is all ages, and we will provide all necessary materials. Each participant will leave with two custom holiday cards.
Please email us at [email protected] if you have any questions.
