HOLGER MARJAMAA TRIO FEAT. BENNY BENACK III & ALEKSANDER PAAL
Tallinnas sündinud ja muusikute peres sirgunud Holger Marjamaa alustas 6-aastaselt klassikalise klaveri õppimist Tallinna Muusikakeskkoolis, 7-aastaselt lisandusid sellele jazzklaveri ja trummi eratunnid. Üks suurimaid mõjuisikuid noore muusiku teel oli David Kikoski, kellelt avanes 13-aastasel Holgeril võimalus eratunde saada. Pärast lõpetamist õppis Marjamaa edasi Eesti Muusika- ja Teatriakadeemias, Sibeliuse Akadeemias ja ühes maailma mainekaimas konservatooriumis, Manhattani Muusikakõrgkoolis jazzklaveri erialal.
Professionaalse muusikuna hoiab Marjamaa klaveritooli Grammy auhinna võitnud trompetisti Chris Botti koosseisus. Ta on esinenud ja salvestanud koos Lee Ritenouri, Dennis Chambersi, Lizz Wrighti, David Kikoski, Lonnie Liston Smithi, John Riley, Steve Wilsoni, Jukkis Uotila, Ben Wolfe'i, Mark Grossi, Joey DeFrancesco, Chad Lefkowitz-Browni bigbändiga, Eesti Riikliku Sümfooniaorkestri, Dallase Sümfooniaorkestri ja paljude teiste kollektiividega.
Holger on võinud auhindu nii jazzklaveri kui ka klassikalise klaveriga, sealhulgas esikoha noorte jazzmuusikute võistlusel „Vikerkaar“ (Tartu, Eesti; 2006), Grand Prix XXIV rahvusvahelisel jazzklaveri konkursil (Vilnius, Leedu; 2013) ning teise preemia II rahvusvahelisel Tallinna pianistide konkursil (Tallinn, Eesti; 2011). Marjamaa oli ka poolfinalist 2018. aasta Thelonious Monki nimelisel jazzklaveri võistlusel, 2013. aastal pärjati ta Eesti nooreks jazzitalendiks ja möödunud aastal aasta jazzmuusikuks. Marjamaa muusikukarjäär on viinud ta New Yorki, kus ta elab alates 2015. aastast. Holger Marjamaa on nõutud jazzpianist Ameerika Ühendriikides, Euroopas ja Aasias.

Holger Marjamaa was born in Tallinn, Estonia and raised in a musical family. His studies began at the age of 6, he attended Tallinn Music High School where he studied classical piano, and at the age of 7 he started taking private jazz piano and drum lessons. At the age of 13, Holger had an opportunity to receive private lessons from David Kikoski, who had a big influence on him. After graduating he went on to study in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Sibelius Academy (prof. Jukkis Uotila) and Manhattan School of Music, majoring in Jazz Piano.
As a professional, Marjamaa is currently holding a piano chair in a Grammy Award Winning trumpeter Chris Botti's group. He has performed and/or recorded with Lee Ritenour, Dennis Chambers, Lizz Wright, David Kikoski, Lonnie Liston Smith, John Riley, Steve Wilson, Jukkis Uotila, Ben Wolfe, Mark Gross, Joey DeFrancesco, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown (his big band record featuring Randy Brecker, Miguel Zenon among others), Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra and many more.
Holger holds many awards in both jazz and classical piano performance, including first prize in Estonia’s Rainbow Jazz Competition (Tartu, Estonia; 2006); Grand Prix at the XXIV International Jazz Piano Competition (Vilnius, Lithuania; 2013); second prize at the II International Tallinn Piano Competition (Tallinn, Estonia; 2011). Marjamaa was also a semi-finalist in the 2018 Thelonious Monk Jazz Piano Competition (since 2019 re-named Herbie Hancock Jazz Piano Competition), the Young Estonian Jazz Talent (Tallinn, Estonia; 2013) and Jazz Musician of the Year (Estonia, Tallinn, 2021). He has performed all across the United States, Europe and Asia, venues and festivals such as Monterey Jazz Festival, Dallas Symphony, Lincoln Center (Dizzy’s Club), Mezzrow Jazz Club, Smalls Jazz Club, Blue Note Tokyo, Blue Note New York, Blue Note Beijing, Blue Note Shanghai etc.
Marjamaa’s musical career has led him to New York City, where he has been living since 2015. Marjamaa is now an in-demand jazz pianist in the United States, Europe and Asia.
