Holes Marathon

This event is part of the presented in partnership with Critical Minded.

We’re kicking off the Symposium with an evening of performances on the theme of Triple Canopy’s next issue, holes: absences, aporias, portals, and clearings, from the body to the earth, from plotholes to potholes. The performances will involve singing into resonant bodies; connecting sinkholes and assholes; and channeling Swiss cheese (among other concerns).

Entry is on a first-come, first-served basis. An RSVP does not guarantee entry if the event reaches capacity before you arrive. Roulette is wheelchair-accessible. Email Zack Wilks, Deputy Director, for more information: [email protected].

Worker Coffee will be on site selling coffee and tea. Tapes, publications, and wares will be available from PTP.

Beverages have been graciously provided by Grimm Artisanal Ales, Narragansett Brewing Company, and Zev Rovine Selections.

Participants
Gregg Bordowitz is an artist, writer, and teacher. He is the author of The AIDS Crisis Is Ridiculous and Other Writings, 1986–2003 (MIT Press, 2004), General Idea: Imagevirus (Afterall Books, 2010), Volition (Printed Matter, Badlands Unlimited, 2010), and Glenn Ligon: Untitled (I Am a Man) (Afterall, 2018).

Zoë Hopkins is a writer and critic based in New York. Her writing has been published in frieze, The Brooklyn Rail, The New York Times, Cultured and Hyperallergic.

Lucas de Lima is a Brazilian-born poet, artist, scholar, and educator. They are the author of Tropical Sacrifice (Birds LLC, 2022) and Wet Land (Action Books, 2014) as well as multiple chapbooks. De Lima is a recipient of grants and fellowships from the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, and the Canada Council for the Arts.

Muyassar Kurdi is a Palestinian-American artist based in New York. Her work encompasses sound art, voice, movement, painting, photography, and film. Rooted in improvisation, her practice engages with memory, displacement, and the body in relation to nature, honoring the futuristic as well as the ancient.

Makimakkuk (a.k.a. Majdal Nijim) is a musical artist from Palestine.

Maya Martinez is a writer and performer raised in Florida and living in New York City. Her collection of plays, Theatrics, is out now with Wonder Press in collaboration with Metalabel.

Louis Osmosis works primarily in sculpture, installation, drawing and text, taking a speculative approach to form to interrogate systems of representation, duration, and performativity that enact contemporary culture. He is based in New York.

Symara Sarai is a choreographer and performer who is one of Dance Magazine’s 2025 “25 to Watch” and was a recipient of a 2023 Bessie Winner for Breakout Choreographer and the Dai Ailian Foundation Scholarship.

About the Symposium
Triple Canopy’s annual symposium is a manifestation of the magazine’s concerns and collaborations, in person and in real time. The two-day gathering brings together artists, writers, performers, and researchers to address the role of culture in responding (or contributing) to a range of critical issues.
