About this Event
The words journalists choose matter. In public discourse, the term “immigrant” is often incorrectly used as a synonym for “undocumented,” reinforcing misconceptions and shaping how communities are perceived. Responsible reporting requires precision, context, and a clear understanding of the language used to describe immigration.
Join the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Los Angeles for a panel discussion exploring the importance of accurate terminology in immigration coverage. Our speakers will examine how linguistic shortcuts can contribute to misinformation, the impact of media narratives on immigrant communities, and how journalists can report on immigration with greater clarity and responsibility.
The conversation will bring together journalists, advocates, and legal experts to discuss best practices for covering immigration stories and the role of the media in informing the public.
