Sunday, February 2, 4PM @ Downtown United Presbyterian Church
This year, First Inversion is thrilled to bring baritone and spirituals specialist, Robert Sims to Rochester thanks to a grant from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Arts and Cultural Initiative, received through the Rochester Area Community Foundation. Along with our dear friend and local superstar soprano, Kearstin Piper Brown, and the choir of First Inversion, we will present our annual exploration of the American Negro Spiritual, this time with a special focus on the works (both literary and musical) of R. Nathaniel Dett (1882-1943), who was the first person of African descent to earn a degree at the Eastman School of Music in 1932 (MM composition). This year's Holding On through Song is not to be missed! As always, the concerts are offered as a gift to our community with suggested ticket prices to support our work ($25/adult, $10/student).
