Hold Up: HOUSE OF WAX (2005)

This spooky season, join HOLD UP programmer Alice Rose back in 2005 with HOUSE OF WAX, a highlight of the golden age of horror remakes with little regard for the burden of honoring its source material. If an episode of Are You Afraid Of The Dark grew up to be a full-length film, this would be it. Acclaimed director Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, The Woman In The Yard) shows us what he's capable of with his breakout film debut. Ignore the haters who panned it upon release; HOUSE OF WAX dares to reimagine the 1953 classic as a darkly energetic slasher flick with unforgettable kills, delightful camp, a soundtrack lifted straight from a burned CD-R, and exactly the performance you'd expect from Paris Hilton.

On their way to a football game, six friends find themselves stranded in the eerie ghost town of Ambrose. When they discover the town's only attraction - a house of wax whose figures are a little too realistic - they become the target of murderous twin brothers. The friends must fight back to escape the town, and avoid becoming part of the exhibit. (ALICE ROSE)
