Join Nevada State Railroad Museum volunteers, Bill and Rick Kohler, to learn about the rich history of “hobos,” or train hoppers. Hobos emerged in the 1800s as migrant workers, and the tradition continued to thrive throughout the Great Depression as both men and women took to the rails in search of work.
Though the hobo is no longer a common sight on today’s railroads, the tradition provides a window into the truly resilient and free-spirited nature of American railroading. Through historical photos and stories, the Kohlers will explore the reality and legends of these nomadic travelers and their unique mode of transportation.
