History Walk: The Story of Lafayette Village

Join us as we welcome back historian, Tim Cranston, for a stroll around the Lafayette Mill which was the center of the Village of Lafayette. This history walk is a part of the Town of North Kingstown's 350th Historical Speaker Series.

Along the way you will learn about the Mill's founder and original owner, Robert Rodman, and how he and the hundreds of folks who lived in the village lived their lives. We will also touch upon topics like the Industrial Revolution, the differences between a southern RI mill village and other mill villages in New England, and the Negro Goods trade. The walk will begin at The Hive RI (the original boiler room!) which is across the parking lot from the waterfall behind the main Lafayette Mill building and we'll be circling through this remarkable place - one of the very best examples of a southern Rhode Island mill village.
