The WWII Manhattan Project Hanford Site included the village of Richland, Washington, a planned community known as “Alphabet City,” after the designated letters for each building. This workforce lived in government-owned housing, shopped in government-designed shopping areas, and were entertained by government-sponsored events designed to keep people content in a place where “Silence is Security” and “Blabateurs are Saboteurs”.
Teresa Andre is a traveling storyteller who spins tales of the Pacific Northwest based on first-person historical accounts. She is a former museum educator and leads guided excursions for the America Cruise line with Pretty Gritty Tours in Tacoma. Teresa is a docent for the Hanford Site and assists with programming for the Manhattan Project National Historical Park.
