Hooker Chemical Company played a major role in the White Lake area and the national conversation about toxic pollution. This session explores that story, from the Love Canal disaster in New York to the company’s facilities in Montague. We will look at what was produced, how contamination occurred, and the long-term impacts on the environment and community, along with the lessons that still matter today.This program is presented by Tanya Cabala and Dr. Rick Rediske.
Tanya Cabala is a longtime environmental advocate, writer, and community leader based in the White Lake area, with more than 30 years of experience working across West Michigan and the Great Lakes region.
Dr. Rick Rediske is a retired research scientist and Professor Emeritus at Grand Valley State University’s Annis Water Resources Institute (AWRI), where he spent more than 30 years studying water quality and environmental contamination across the Great Lakes region.
