Bonhams London is listing four Qing-dynasty cloisonné enamel flower panels that were once owned by Lady Anne M.S. Durston. Inspired by these panels, Dr. Meng-Hung Su explores exoticism in his latest exhibition. He uses realist imagery, traditional motifs, and a unique painting technique that conceals the labor and time involved in the creation of his artworks.

About Meng-Hung Su

Meng-Hung Su works with painting, silkscreen printing, installation, and sculpture, transforming traditional Chinese flower and bird imagery into gaudy, grandiose icons and sensuous symbols. His art blends historical cultural symbols with contemporary visual experiences, using techniques like simulation, xipi, mother-of-pearl inlay, and cloisonné. Su’s work responds to the re-amalgamation of Eastern and Western craft histories and interrogates art production within capitalism.
