Lessons from Latin America: Weaving Relationships and Reconciling Colonial Legacies through Museum Collections
This talk will reflect on the work developed by the Santo Domingo Centre of Excellence for Latin American Research at the British Museum, collaborating with local communities and contemporary artists in the region. Focusing on key lessons learned, it will explore how Indigenous and Afrodiasporic perspectives may shape new paths for decolonising curatorial and art historical practice.
About Louise de Mello
Louise de Mello is Head of the Santo Domingo Centre of Excellence for Latin American Research at the British Museum. She is a historian and anthropologist who specialises in Latin American archaeology, with an emphasis in the Amazonian region. She has held affiliations with the University of Cambridge, Harvard University, Brazil’s National Museum and the Museum of Huelva, among other institutions.
