Stop by Gin Mill Pub after work on Wednesday, June 26, at 5:30 pm to grab a drink and discover the forgotten cemetery of Grafton. After the Great Flood of 1993 wrought destruction on the town of Grafton in Jersey County, Illinois, Grafton’s citizens decided to relocate the town from the floodplain to the bluffs to mitigate the damage of future flood events. During the Grafton Relocation Project, archaeologists discovered evidence of a Euro-American cemetery that was in use between 1834-1873, but no longer contained grave markers and had little in the way of historic documentation. Learn about the lives and deaths of early Graftonians and how the Grafton Cemetery became “forgotten.” This is a free program.
