📖 ABOUT THE MUSEUM

Founded in 1935 by the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America, the Polish Museum of America began as the Museum and Archives of the PRCUA. Its first exhibit opened in 1937 and it quickly grew into one of the oldest and largest ethnic museums in the U.S.

🌍 1939 World’s Fair Collection

After Poland’s invasion in WWII, many exhibits from the Polish Pavilion could not return home. The Museum preserved nearly ¾ of these works, including the stunning stained glass “Poland Reborn,” now on permanent display.

🎹 Legacy of Ignacy Jan Paderewski

His personal belongings and furnishings were donated in 1941 and are now displayed in one of the Museum’s most fascinating exhibit spaces.

📚 Library & Archives

The Museum’s Library holds over 100,000 books in Polish and English, including rare volumes, periodicals, and the extensive Polonica Collection.

The Archives preserve historic documents, maps, and photographs from Polish and Polish-American organizations and individuals—making it an important research center.

🗺️ During WWII, the Museum’s detailed maps were so valuable that U.S. Naval Intelligence used and microfilmed them in 1943, adding a unique chapter to its history.

Today, the Museum continues to preserve and share Polish and Polish-American heritage for future generations.
